Volkswagen Tyres
While we may often overlook our tyres, it goes without saying that they're some of the most important parts of our cars. For one, tyres are responsible for keeping your Volkswagen on the road and making sure that it both stops and starts safely!
After all, although they might be something you rarely give attention to, you certainly do think about them when they've picked up a puncture or sidewall damage.

Do you need Volkswagen's own tyres?
In order to select the right tyres for your exact model and make of Volkswagen - you'll need to choose ones which are compatible and the correct size for your wheels. However, these don't always have to be ones uniquely created by Volkswagen. In fact, we have many different options available.
That being said, manufacturer-approved tyres (also known as original equipment tyres) are always going to be preferable because not only does Volkswagen recommend them but they also help provide optimum performance for your car.
Should you go premium?
When it comes to choosing which tyres you want for your Volkswagen, there is a lot to consider - the relative benefits of each tyre brand and the scale of bang for your buck being just two of the factors involved.
Budget Volkswagen tyres
The least expensive option is budget tyres. These will do the job if they're the only ones you can afford. However, in the long run, the lower build quality may mean you have to replace them more frequently, inevitably costing you more in total.
Premium Volkswagen tyres
Premium tyres offer a more upmarket alternative. These rely upon the technical research conducted by tyre manufacturers such as Pirelli, Goodyear, and Michelin and, in so doing, create an all-round more robust tyre that, when compared to budget alternatives, has a higher performance.
Volkswagen Manufacturer Approved tyres
Lastly, you may wish to opt for Manufacturer approved tyres for your Volkswagen. This tyre type has been specifically developed and tested to meet the requirements of your Volkswagen. After undergoing a rigorous testing regime, you can take confidence in the ability of these tyres and their compatibility with your car.
While opting for premium or manufacturer approved tyres is a little more expensive upfront, the long-term benefits pay off. For one, manufacturer approved tyres usually result in a lower lifetime cost as they require less frequent replacement. Also, it goes without saying that they have many added performance benefits such as fuel efficiency, braking, and handling.
As an aside, there are also certain tyre features you can choose, such as:
- Run flat tyres that stay inflated when they are punctured.
- Reinforced tyres that can bear heavy loads. This type is ideal for vans.
- Rim protectors to protect the wheel rims from curb damage.
